Colgan Air Q400 crashes near Buffalo, NY

Continental Connection flight number 3407, operated by Colgan Air was involved in an accident on Thursday 12 February at about 10:20 pm EST. The Bombardier Q400 was operating between Newark Liberty International Airport and Buffalo Niagara International Airport and crashed into housing approximately five minutes before it was due to land.

Preliminary information indicates that the aircraft carried 44 passengers and a crew of four, none of whom has survived. A local official confirmed that there was one fatality on the ground.

According to CNN, the aircraft "burst into a fireball on impact".

Colgan Air says its accident response team has been mobilised and will be devoted to co-operating with all authorities responding to the accident and to contacting family members and providing assistance to them.

Airline personnel and local authorities have already begun working to confirm the number of people on board and their identities.

Colgan Air will continue to release additional information as it is confirmed.
