Colgan Air announces March and 1Q09 performance data

Pinnacle Airlines Corporation has released the traffic figures for its Colgan Air subsidiary for March 2009, which show the carrier having a slight increase in its load factor year-on-year. The airline's first quarter figures have also been announced.

Revenue Passenger Miles (RPMs) reached 51,986,000, a 23.4% increase on March 2008's figure of 42,140,000. Capacity, in available seat miles (ASMs) rose by 22.1% to 91,352,000 from 74,838,000. The resultant load factor was 56.9%, 0.6 percentage points (pp) up on the 56.3% achieved in March 2008. The total passengers carried in March 2009 was 224,649, up 15.3% on last March's 194,833.

In the first quarter of 2009 (1Q09) RPMs were 49.1% up at 132,309,000 compared with 88,721,000 in 1Q08. First quarter ASMs rose by 44.2% year-on-year to 260,487,000 from 180,595. The 1Q09 load factor was 50.8%, 1.7 pp up on the 1Q08 figure of 49.1%. Passengers carried in 1Q09 numbered 576,553, an increase of 31.4% over the 438,726 carried in 1Q08.

The figures reflect Colgan's changing fleet. In March 2008 the airline flew 41 Saab 340s, five Beech 1900s and six Bombardier Q400s. By March 2009 all the Beech 1900s had gone, the Saab 340 figure was down to 34, while the Q400 fleet had risen to 14.
