CES to highlight wireless world
The march of wireless in consumer electronics is one of the top themes of this week’s CES International show in Las Vegas, where Inflight Online will be moderating a panel of leading figures from the air-to-ground connectivity industry.
To be opened on Thursday by Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) chief executive Gary Shapiro, the event will showcase the latest trends in location-based services, next-generation WiFi, mobile phones, smartphones and mobile television – in short, the things that will be shaping passenger expectations as connectivity services finally get a toehold in air transport over the next few years.
“Wireless technology is a critical component of many consumer electronics products, bringing connectivity to devices and to consumers,” says Karen Chupka, CEA’s senior VP for events and conferences. “With major wireless exhibitors, the Wireless World Spotlight and conference sessions focused on wireless trends, visitors to CES will see the latest advances in this area.”
Leading wireless players booked to exhibit at CES 2009 include Blackberry (Research in Motion), LG, Motorola, Nokia, Samsung, T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless. The special Wireless World Spotlight location will bring together manufacturers and distributors showing the latest in wireless handsets and accessories. And there will be conference sessions addressing topics such as the fundamental shift to mobility in consumer electronics, and the likely shape of the wireless retail landscape in five years’ time.
Overall, the show will bring together a massive contingent of 2,700 exhibitors covering 30 different product categories, including digital entertainment, high-performance audio, digital imaging and electronic gaming.
