AirTran reports June and half-year traffic
AirTran Airways has reported record traffic for the month of June 2009 plus the figures for the first half of 2009.
In June the carrier recorded 1,763,002,000 revenue passenger miles (RPMs), down 6.5% from last June's 1,886,053,000. Available seat miles (ASMs) numbered 2,109,181,000, a decrease of 5.3% from 2,226,512,000 in the same month last year.
Passengers carried totalled 2,212,119, a 5.4% drop on the 2,339,430carried in June 2008. The load factor also fell, by 1.1 percentage point (pp) from 84.7% last June to 83.6% this year.
In the first half of 2009 (1H09) RPMs fell by 6.0% to 8,904,609,000 from 9,476,075,000 in 1H08, while ASMs were cut by 7.4% to 11,327,284,000 from 12,228,154,000 for the respective periods.
This brought a load factor increase of 1.1 pp to 78.6% in 1H09 from 77.5% in 1H08. Passengers carried were down 5.7% however, to 11,553,073 from 12,251,746.
