Air Berlin reports December 2008 and annual traffic

In 2008, Air Berlin welcomed a total of 28,559,220 passengers on board, i.e. one percent more than in the previous year (2007: 28,272,967). Fleet capacity utilization over the January to December 2008 period improved to 78.4 percent, i.e. an increase of 1.2 percentage points (2007: 77.2 percent).

For December 2008, Air Berlin’s revenue per available seat kilometre ("Yield per ASK") reached 5.35 Eurocents, an increase of 17.6 percent over the corresponding month of the previous year (December 2007: 4.55 Eurocents). As a result of a targeted capacity reduction of 6.4 percent, the number of passengers transported decreased by 5.4 percent to 1,806,618 passengers (December 2007: 1,909,137). Fleet capacity utilization increased from 71.5 to 72.3 percent, i.e. an increase of 0.8 percentage points.
