IAE International Aero Engines has celebrated the completion of the 4,000th V2500 engine at a ceremony in Middletown, Connecticut, USA.

The engine is a new V2500 SelectOne configuration and is scheduled to be installed on the 4,000th A320-family aircraft produced by Airbus, an A319 to be delivered to TAM in August.

IAE president and CEO, Jon Beatty commented, “Reaching this milestone is proof of a successful strategy of continuous innovation and pushing technological boundaries through the strong support of our shareholders. The V2500 is the second largest engine programme currently in production. In the last five years alone we’ve doubled our production output and we have a backlog that equates to around six years of production.

The engine has accumulated more than 70 million hours in service on the Airbus A320 family and the Boeing MD-90.

The latest V2500 SelectOne build standard delivers an additional 1% fuel burn advantage, along with a corresponding reduction in CO2 emissions. It improves time-on-wing by up to 20%, and is compliant with the most stringent CAEP/6 NOx standards. It entered service in October 2008.
