'ScanEagle has accrued 175,000 flight hours since being deployed with the US Marine Corps in 2004 and is currently adding to that figure to the tune of 10,000 hours per month (1,000 hours of which come from maritime flying off ships),' says Erik Edsall, Director International Business Development, Insitu.

The ScanEagle platform has been clocking-up operational hours since its first employment with the US Marine Corps in 2004, closely followed by the US Navy the following year. It recently found fame in being the UAS overhead the dramatic rescue of Capt Richard Phillips from pirates in the north east Indian Ocean.
