Republic of Korea buys four Global Hawks

THE Department of Defense (DoD) has announced the US government has approved the sale of four Northrop Grumman RQ-4B Block 30 Global Hawks to the Republic of Korea (ROK).

The DoD’s statement valued the foreign military sale at $657.4 million, which includes two spare engines and associated ground control equipment.

The ROK will receive its first Global Hawks fitted with an 'enhanced integrated sensor suite' in 2018, with all four to be delivered by June 2019.

The same week, the country announced it was acquiring the Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) Heron 1 as well, a clear sign the country wants
