The People’s Liberation Army (PLA) has inducted a new-generation amphibious ambulance, it emerged in mid-October.

The new design, approved by the PLA’s General Armaments Department, is based on the ZBD-05 amphibious assault vehicle manufactured by NORINCO. A prominent trim vane is mounted on the front of the hull.

A photo of the vehicle, whose exact nomenclature is not yet known, shows a raised roof over the rear compartment to permit greater internal volume for patients and medical personnel. The ambulance can accommodate up to eight wounded soldiers, in addition to a complement of medics.
