ADEX 2015: Korean Air showcases unmanned MD 500

The Korean Air Aerospace Division (KAL-ASD) continues to develop a fully unmanned MD 500 helicopter for a Korean Army requirement, it has emerged.

The company displayed the aircraft, dubbed KUS-VH, at the Seoul ADEX exhibition from 20-25 October.

Boeing has been supporting this effort as part of offset obligations for about two years, but this cooperation agreement ceases on 31 December 2015. Boeing refers to it as Project 25, and Jim Barker, Boeing’s senior manager of AH-6i sales and marketing, said the aim was ‘to help the Koreans understand what goes into building an optionally piloted vehicle’.
