AUVSI: STUAS II set for early deployment

The US Navy and Marine Corps (USMC) have backed calls for the 'early deployment' of its Small Tactical Unmanned Air System (STUAS) Tier II system as early as 2011.

Speaking at AUVSI in Denver on 25 August, PMA 263 program manager, Capt J R Brown said a six-month early operational assessment would begin in the first quarter of 2011, designed to measure the system's 'early operational capability for early deployment'.

The news follows the US Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) award of a 24-month STUAS II engineering, manufacturing and development contract to Insitu and its Integrator air vehicle, announced on
