AUVSI: Aerovironment talks up first Global Observer flight

Aerovironment has revealed details about the first flight tests of its Global Observer high altitude long endurance UAV at the AUVSI Unmanned Systems North America in Denver.

Addressing delegates on 24 August, company officials said the airframe had successfully completed three flights this month, two of which comprised over an hour in duration, at Edwards Air Force Base.

Operating up to an altitude of 2,000 feet above ground level, Aerovironment said test flights had proved handling qualities and automatic flight control modes while operating on battery power. The air vehicle was also being manually controlled for take-off and landing.
