Vector Aerospace Helicopter Services offering Sagem ?glass cockpit? kits to marketplace
Vector Aerospace Helicopter Services North America (Vector) has announced it has received Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) approval (STC #SR00229AK) to manufacture and distribute Sagem Avionics, Inc. (SAFRAN Group) Integrated Cockpit Display Systems (ICDS, or “glass cockpit installations”) for the Bell 206 series of helicopters.
Elvis Moniz, Director of Operations for Vector-Langley’s structures and avionics operation anticipates the company will be capable of delivering the comprehensive kits to the international market by March, 2009.
“Our goal is to continue developing reliable, cost-effective cockpit upgrade solutions that enhance flight safety and reduce customer operating costs. Applicable to legacy and new aircraft platforms, the Vector-Sagem ICDS provides pilots with the latest situational awareness tools, and the ability to adapt or upgrade to accommodate practically any mission requirement.
Vector’s glass cockpit upgrade kits will be available with several options; from a single Primary Flight Display (PFD), to 3 display solutions compatible with Sagem autopilots. 8 and 10 inch displays capable of displaying engine and flight navigation parameters in both portrait and landscape display orientations, NVG, Video, and an integrated caution and advisory system.
Three types of Attitude and Heading Reference Systems (AHRS) units will be available, allowing operators to select the option that best suits their mission requirements and budget. The Bell 206 system is currently FAA, Transport Canada and EASA certified for all 206 series helicopters, with development of a similar STC for the Bell 407 close to completion.
Vector has partnered with Sagem Avionics, the industry’s leading manufacturer of glass cockpit systems to develop and integrate various STCs for the Bell 205 / 206, as well as the Eurocopter AS350, Heli-Lynx 355FX, Eagle Single, and the Sikorsky S61 helicopter. The Bell 412 and Eurocopter Super Puma are leading candidates for similar upgrades by Vector and Sagem.
In addition to these platforms, Vector also offers a Rockwell-Collins STC; an FDS-2000 solution designed for the Sikorsky S76 and S61.
