Southwest Airlines? August traffic figures reported
Southwest Airlines has announced that it flew 6,693,859,000 revenue passenger miles (RPMs) in August 2009, a 1.0% increase from the 6,630,104,000 RPMs flown in August 2008.
Available seat miles (ASMs) decreased 6.1% to 8,343,899,000 from the August 2008 level of 8,882,141,000.
The load factor for the month was 80.2%, up by 5.6 percentage points from 74.6% for the same period last year. Total passengers carried in August 2009 numbered 7,515,594, a 3.0% fall from 7,751,835 in August last year.
The airline estimates that passenger revenue per ASM for August 2009 has decreased in the five to six percent range as compared to August 2008.
