'Merve' joins Pegasus fleet
Pegasus Airlines has taken delivery of its sixth aircraft, named Merve, from its order for 24 new Boeing 737-800s.
From summer 2009 the Pegasus fleet, together with sister airline IZair, has grown to 24 aircraft comprising 19 Pegasus and five IZair aeroplanes.
The new addition's maiden flight will be to Zurich on 1 September. Continuing the tradition of naming new aircraft after the newest born daughter from the Pegasus family, the plane is called Merve after the newborn daughter of aircraft technician Şadi Yumurtacı. The tradition prescribes each aircraft is given the name of the baby girl born on the date closest to the delivery date of the new aircraft.
Merve follows the addition of Hayırlı in November 2007, Hanım in January 2008, Gülce (pictured) in August 2008, Ece in February 2009 and Selin in June.
General manager Sertaç Haybat reports that the company is very happy with the service performance, economic benefits and Boeing’s support for the 737s. “Our passengers are very happy with the comfort provided by the 737s," remarked Haybat. "Our fleet size is projected to reach 43 by 2015.”
