Lithuanian charge changes encourage airBaltic plans for flights from Vilnius

10 November 2009 - 14:25 by the Shephard News Team

airBaltic has welcomed the initiative of the Lithuanian government and its Transportation Ministry to lower tariffs at Vilnius International Airport from 1 December of this year and says it will sign a new agreement with the airport.

During the winter season, airBaltic plans to launch five new direct routes from Vilnius. The airline will also evaluate four other routes for introduction in summer 2010. The reduced tariffs in Vilnius allow for a volume-based system of discounts of the same type that was available to airlines at Riga airport until November this year.

“Vilnius airport has begun very targeted policies with the lowering of its tariffs,” commented airBaltic president and CEO Bertolt Flick. “This will allow airBaltic to launch new nonstop flights, and other airlines will also be attracted to the Lithuanian capital city. We are convinced that next year Vilnius airport will have every chance to become the most rapidly growing airport in Europe.”
