Arinc seeks first Oi airline customer within two months

Arinc says it is hoping to announce the first airline customer for its Oi Onboard Internet Service within two months.

Speaking at Arinc EMEA’s Autumn media day, Colette Parks, business director, satellite solutions, noted that many airlines are on the verge of the making their connectivity decisions. “We have had so many RFPs this year,” she reported, “but with no decisions firm yet, the launch of Oi has been slightly delayed. So we’ve taken the opportunity to refine the product to enable it to operate on different platforms, not just broadband.

“This will mean a different type of content provision, where we will be looking at providing near-live events in news and sports, say after a delay of half an hour rather than live,” Parks explained. “Other features such as messaging and, on the airline side, live billing of inflight sales transactions, should transfer more easily to other satellite systems.”

Arinc will be demonstrating Oi Onboard Internet Service and all its interactive IFE capabilities at the World Airline Entertainment Association (WAEA) convention in Palm Springs, California next week.
