Serco will provide installation support for Close-In Weapons Systems (CIWS) on US Navy, US Army and US Coast Guard vessels under a single-award IDIQ contract worth up to $31 million, announced on 18 August.

The contract will see Serco perform installations, upgrades and modifications to the CIWS on board the vessels.

The CIWS is a point-defence weapon for detecting and destroying low- and high-flying, high-speed manoeuvring anti-ship missile threats that have penetrated outer defences.

Dan Allen, chairman and chief executive officer, Serco, said: ‘Serco has a rich history of supporting the US Navy with C4ISR solutions and expertise. This programme is a great addition to our C4ISR portfolio and we are ready to apply our experience to further the United States military and its shipboard defence systems.’
