IMDEX Asia: Cape-class construction nears end

Construction of the final vessel of the eight Cape-class patrol boats for the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service was being concluded, according to Austal Shipbuilders.

The sixth vessel under this AU$330 million programme was handed over earlier this month, while the remaining two patrol boats will be delivered by the end of 2015.

Austal was chosen to design, construct and provide through-life support of the Cape class in an August 2011 contract. Each aluminium-hulled boat is 58m long and is capable of conducting 28-day patrols or patrolling a distance of 4,000nm.
