MILCOM 2011: FDF pursues communications upgrade

The Finnish Defence Forces (FDF) are set to receive an initial tranche of 40 Tactical Wireless IP Network routers from Elektrobit (EB) Corporation as part of wider plans to upgrade its communications capability.

Speaking to Shephard at the MILCOM conference in Baltimore, EB product manager Reima Kettunen said delivery of the items would coincide with the FDF fielding software defined radios, which will also be supplied by the company.

Designed as a stand-alone military wireless broadband network, the tactical router enables the formation of an independent IP network, which is compatible with existing infrastructure, both wired and wireless, Kettunen described.
