L-3 Communications Warrior Systems has announced that it has been awarded an indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity (ID/IQ) contract to supply the Binocular Night Vision Devices (BNVD) to the US Special Operations Command (SOCOM).

According to L-3, the equipment will provide special operations forces with enhanced surveillance, identification, recognition and detection capability in all light conditions, especially where vision is limited or restricted due to low light conditions.

The miniature dual-tube goggle incorporates ‘advanced optics and the highest performance image intensifier tubes in a clever mechanical format that makes it the world’s smallest, lightest, best-performing and most cost-effective product available’, an L-3 spokesperson said.

The firm-fixed price contract is worth $50 million, and was awarded by the US Navy’s Naval Surface Warfare Centre.
