L-3 Wescam is set to provide the United Arab Emirates (UAE) with MX-15D EO/IR imaging and designation systems following an order from IOMAX USA, it was revealed on 20 February.

IOMAX has ordered 28 MX-15D EO/IR turrets which will be fitted onto a fleet of the company’s turboprop aircraft. The aircraft will carry out close air support and armed border patrol missions on behalf of ‘a customer within the UAE’.

Deliveries are due to begin in May 2015 and are scheduled to be completed in 2016.

‘We are very proud to have been chosen by IOMAX and look forward to continuing our strong relationship with the UAE and its military forces,’ said Paul Jennison, VP of government sales and business development for L-3 Wescam.

‘The MX-15D’s HD imagers, high target-location accuracy and designation capability make it a very secure and trusted choice for the UAE.’

Support services will be conducted in the UAE through an L-3 Wescam authorised service centre.

The MX-15Ds will be configured with high-definition EO and IR imagers, a dual-channel colour and low-light spotter, a laser illuminator, a dual-mode rangefinder/designator and a laser spot tracker.

In addition, the system will feature image blending and L-3 Wescam’s Kinetic moving target indicator (MTI) tool which detects multiple moving targets in an image stream. This capability increases the probability of detecting suspicious activity in any given scene, while significantly reducing operator burden and improving surveillance efficiency.
