Harris Corporation, an international communications and information technology company, has received a $10.5 million order from the US Department of Defense to supply Falcon III AN/PRC-117G multiband manpack radio systems.

The field-proven AN/PRC-117G provides the DoD with a software-defined, upgradeable platform that enables tactical communications networking, high-bandwidth applications and simultaneous voice and data feeds. The AN/PRC-117G is a NSA Type-1 certified wideband manpack radio system. With its fully integrated and NSA-certified High Assurance Internet Protocol Equipment (HAIPE) networking encryption, the AN/PRC-117G provides the highest level of information assurance connectivity to tactical units.

"The AN/PRC-117G is accelerating command decision-making by delivering mission-critical, real-time information to warfighters on-the-move," said Brendan O'Connell, president, Department of Defense business, Harris RF Communications. "In addition to networking deployed forces over wide areas, the radio system also provides access to combat applications such as streaming video, biometric systems, and collaborative chat over secure networks."

The Falcon III AN/PRC-117G and Falcon III family of radios are becoming widely adopted by the US Department of Defense, federal agencies, and key allies. C4ISR Journal recently named the AN/PRC-117G as a Big 25 award winner for 2010 in the category of network systems, recognizing the technology for having "a significant impact in defeating terrorists, preventing attacks, and enabling troops to make the right decisions on the battlefield."

The AN/PRC-117G is a JTRS SCA-certified and NSA Type-1 certified wideband manpack radio system. With its fully integrated and NSA-certified High Assurance Internet Protocol Equipment (HAIPE) networking encryption, the AN/PRC-117G provides the highest level of information assurance connectivity to tactical commanders and deployed forces in the field. The AN/PRC-117G manpack radio development has followed the US Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS) program's Enterprise Business Model (EBM). The EBM encourages companies to develop next-generation solutions in tactical communications using their own investment capital. In doing so, the EBM encourages competition, increases innovation, reduces costs and speeds development of important capabilities.

Harris RF Communications is the leading global supplier of secure radio communications and embedded high-grade encryption solutions for military, government and commercial organizations. The company's Falcon family of software-defined tactical radio systems encompasses manpack, handheld and vehicular applications. Falcon III is the next generation of radios supporting the US military's Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS) requirements, as well as network-centric operations worldwide. Harris RF Communications is also a leading supplier of assured communications systems and equipment for public safety, utility and transportation markets -- with products ranging from the most advanced IP voice and data networks to portable and mobile single- and multiband radios.
