France orders additional Ground Master radars
ThalesRaytheonSystems (TRS) will supply the French armed forces with new Ground Master radars in both fixed and mobile configuration under a contract from the French DGA awarded on 8 December.
TRS will supply 12 fixed Ground Master 400 radars and 4 mobile tactical Ground Master 200 radars under the award, and provide through-life support for the radars. The company will also conduct installation and civil engineering work for the Ground Master 400 radars.
The contract has been awarded as part of the SCCOA air command and control programme, which is designed to provide airspace surveillance and control and air operations command capability for French forces.
The new radars will expand capabilities provided by Ground Master radars delivered to military bases in Kourou, Nice and Lyon by TRS. The radar in Kourou, the first of its kind to enter operational service in France, was inaugurated on 27 November 2014.
Along with the Ground Master radars already integrated within SCCOA, the new radars will be coupled with the NATO ACCS network, providing airspace monitoring and ground-based air defence detection.
Jérôme Bendell, chief executive officer, TRS France, said: ‘ThalesRaytheonSystems is proud to be contributing with its Ground Master radars to the modernisation of France’s air surveillance capability, which is already underway with the delivery of these latest-generation radars for the bases in Kourou, Nice and Lyon.’
