Avalon 2015: Australian Wedgetail fully operational by mid-year

Full operating capability (FOC) is expected to be declared for the Royal Australian Air Force’s (RAAF) Wedgetail E-7A airborne early warning and control aircraft before the middle of 2015.

Initial operating capability was declared at the end of 2012 and since then aircraft have taken part in Red Flag Alaska, RimPac and other international exercises as well as national exercises such as Pitch Black and Talisman North.

In April 2014 Wedgetail aircraft were involved in the search for the missing Malaysian Airlines aircraft MH-370 off the west coast of Australia, providing overwatch for search aircraft from China, Japan, New Zealand,
