AFA 2012: USAF stands up new cyber ops group

As the US Air Force (USAF) sharpens its focus on the cyber mission, the 10th Air Force is opening a new cyber operations unit to bring more civilian expertise to the fight.

The fledging nature of USAF’s response to the cyber threat was a major theme of the AFA Air & Space conference in National Harbor this week, with many of the air force’s senior leaders addressing the issue.

Speaking to reporters, Brig Gen Karen Rizzuti, vice commander of 10th Air Force – a numbered air force of the Air Force Reserve Command – said the command was now standing
